Fishing Gear UK – An Essential Guide

Fishing Gear UK

Summer holidays have arrived!

With an average family size of 2.4 our lives are very busy –  with work time averaging at over 37 hours per week –  it’s no wonder that 71% of adults report an increase in hobby activities, with 20% starting a hobby for the first time, especially since lockdown.

Fishing has been reported in the past as one of the top two most relaxing hobbies or way of life as called by most anglers and who could blame us when there’s reason to utilise statistics such as a decrease in heart rate.

Of course we need to go fishing. It’s been a tough week! It’s vital for my health that I go.

Before we head off to beat that personal best we need that all essential checklist of fishing gear;

Rods
Reels
Nets
Shade and shelter Tackle box with all the bits and bobs
And most importantly good food and a beverage/s of choice!

Now we’ve established secretly at that point in the week, that we’re covered for all of the essentials we now need the reason, the excuse and the self validation of leaving the loved ones behind to manage the kids, to leave that pile of washing that definitely needs doing before Monday and to leave those friends drinking in the pub wondering why you could possibly want to miss out on a night out.

The ground bait has now been thrown into the waters of life and it’s time for the validation to come and pick up those crumbs and ease our mind that the world is still swimming around without you being there whilst you plan to sit next to a well scaped river, pond, lake or even puddle depending on your mood.

That all important weekend has now finally arrived. You’ve packed your tackle box, strategically placed your rods in your vehicle and you’ve taken those baits out of the fridge including the ever argumentative maggots.

Your on your way, work notifications turned off, problems left behind the sticking latch of your door whilst the sun is thinking about rising and now all that’s on your mind is that illusive big fish that no ones seen before, it’s going in that net and your going to struggle to lift it in that sling!

 You’ve arrived, the only one there and a choice of swims is all yours and there is nothing left to do but to pre feed your swim whilst you set your rod rests, bite alarms, quiver tips, or floats then it’s time to make that first cast, sit back and relax and wait for Moby to show, all without singing ‘come on fishy’

8 or even 48 hours later, you’ve not had a single bite, all of that work gathering your equipment and nothing!!

The only thing you have caught is that important  break, and you’re heading home to make your plans to do it all again.
